Kim Kardashian Is Having a “Greige” Moment

The star opens up about her love of minimalist forms and neutrals

Kim Kardashian is nothing if not consistent in her aesthetic choices. The Kardashians star dropped by Condé Nast’s New York headquarters on Tuesday to promote the launch of her new beauty line, Skkn. The sleek, statuesque products, photographed amongst concrete blocks in early promotional images, are yet another ode to Kardashian’s minimalistic state of mind.

Talking to a group of editors, Kardashian spoke about her palette of choice. “I like neutrals; that’s my thing,” she said. “All my inspo [for Skkn] was concrete sculpture, different shades of stone, interiors.” The work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, she says, was a reference point, which is not surprising considering he is currently designing a vacation home for her in Palm Springs, California, that she has described as “concrete, gray-toned, and really Zen.” Additionally, she looked to her statement-making home in Hidden Hills, designed by Belgian talent Axel Vervoordt and previously featured in AD, as inspiration.

“I’ve always loved really minimal tones and I always thought the packaging should look really good in my house,” Kardashian explained of the beauty line.

The star went on to say that when it comes to colors, a perfect gray-beige mix is her current go-to. “I love the word greige,” she said. In a recent Vogue video, she talked about how that color can be spotted across her life. It decorates the exterior of her home, and Kardashian even updated her fleet of cars to match. “My house is gray and I wanted them to kind of match the house, so I did all gray cars,” she said. She showed off her Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Ghost, and her Maybach, all painted the color of storm clouds. This is a departure, she said, from the “matte silver” color she previously favored for cars.

When it comes to the pristine, mostly cream and white interiors of her house, she insists on keeping things clean, but lets her kids break from the mold in their own spaces. “I let my kids go crazy in their rooms, but all around the house and everywhere else it has to be my thing,” she said. Kardashian said that her daughter North often makes fun of it, saying, “Your house is so white!” But it doesn’t bother Kardashian. “She thinks it’s the biggest dig to me,” she laughed.

Beyond the interior realm, Kardashian, decked out in a platinum blonde bob, spoke about how she would describe her sense of style right now. “A little futuristic,” she mused. “Future alien Barbie.”
