Jim Carrey lists longtime Brentwood compound for $29 million

Movie star Jim Carrey is saying goodbye to his LA ranch after nearly 30 years. The Ace Ventura star has listed the five-bedroom Brentwood estate with Janelle Friedman of Sotheby’s International Realty for $28.9 million.

Extending over two acres, the house was completed in 1951 and is described in the listing as a “one-of-a-kind magical sanctuary,” with pitched beamed ceilings, skylights, multiple fireplaces, and an Art Deco movie theater spread over roughly 12,700 square feet of living space.

The Brentwood compound is asking $29 million.

The primary suite has its own covered balcony and an Arts and Crafts–style en suite with a giant copper fireplace. Other highlights include a gym, tennis courts, a pool with a waterfall, and an outdoor yoga platform. Carrey described the home as “a place of enchantment and inspiration.”

“Every night the owls sang me lullabies, and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds under a giant grandfather pine,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

The Revere Quality House

Modernist masterpiece in Sarasota, Florida, lists for $8.5 million

Completed in 1949, the Revere Quality House in Siesta Key, Florida, was designed by architects Paul Rudolph and Ralph Twitchell as a prototype for the bold modernist house of the future—one that celebrated rectangular forms and synthetic materials. It became the hallmark of the Sarasota School of Architecture, but by the turn of the 21st century, the Revere Quality House was languishing in disrepair on Bayou Louise. At just 1,000 square feet, it proved to be too modest for contemporary buyers, who would expect a spacious waterfront estate.

The solution was to transform it into a guesthouse for a new and larger residence. In 2003, Doug Olson and developer Howard Rooks bought the Revere House. They worked with architect Gus Peterson, who created a 4,755-square-foot modernist mansion on the 0.68-acre property.

The newer house’s design “plays off the little house, and the materials are the same—walls of glass, steel columns, concrete exteriors, and terrazzo floors,” Peterson told Sarasota magazine in 2005. “There’s continuity between the two structures; and the placement of the swimming pool, the motor court, and even the trees is precise and calculated.”

Now the two-building compound is being listed for $8.5 million with Steve Wexler of Sotheby’s International Realty. The main house, completed in 2007 and extensively updated in 2017, offers a wide-open interior and floor-to-ceiling windows for a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. The first floor houses two bedrooms, a spacious great room, a kitchen, and a dining room. The primary bedroom, which takes up the entire second floor, is accessible by elevator or an aluminum staircase. Above, a roof top deck with a wet bar, a gas firepit, and built-in furniture offers breathtaking views of the Gulf.

The home last sold for $2.5 million in 2017, according to Mansion Global.

Villa Paradiso

Haute & Boss

Villa Paradiso bets on $60 million

Elsewhere in Florida, developers Haute & Boss and Saks Black Label are building an oceanfront estate in Vero Beach designed by Choeff Levy Fischman. If Villa Paradiso makes its $60-million asking price, it’ll be one of the priciest residences in the state. Its completion is slated for 2024.

Haute & Boss principal Victor Hernandez says the property will strike a balance “between its relaxed oceanfront setting and upscale lifestyle experience.” With 150 feet of private beach frontage, the 21,000-square-foot compound will include an eight-bedroom main house, plus a guest house, a stand-alone spa and fitness center, and a security office. Luxury is infused throughout the layout, from the 15-foot waterfall and reflecting ponds in the entrance to the property’s three swimming pools (including a 60-foot infinity pool). Other highlights include a eight-seat screening room, a wine cellar accommodating 1,400 bottles, and an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven.

Part of Florida’s Treasure Coast, Vero Beach has emerged as an upscale vacation destination. It first caught the eye of NASA astronauts training at Cape Canaveral in the 1960s, and today is known for golf, water sports, fine dining, and nightlife. (Gloria Estefan opened the Costa d’Este Beach Resort there in 2008.)

Still, the enclave is unlikely to turn into a second South Beach. As Hernandez told Robb Report, “the city’s general attitude toward limiting growth will never allow it to become an over-congested metropolis.”
