Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Sell Beverly Hills Home for $15.5 Million

The pair renovated the Hollywood Regency–style mansion during the short time they owned it

It’s hard to keep up with Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi's frequent real-estate moves. Over the past few months, they've sold an oceanfront Carpinteria, California, mansion, bought a Balinese-style estate in Montecito, and purchased a $45 million Beverly Hills home from Adam Levine. In March, they listed another Beverly Hills mansion just seven months after purchasing it, and that house has now sold for $15.5 million.

The stunning five-bedroom abode was initially listed for almost $18 million, and though it reportedly sold for less, the pair still made a $500,000 profit, seeing as they bought it for $15 million. It’s easy to see why they were able to make money on the deal; even during their short tenure, the duo completed a lot of cosmetic work on the dwelling.

While it’s unclear exactly what they changed, Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency (who had the listing) said DeGeneres's renovations turned out great. “Her taste and her eye is exquisite. Her love of architecture and design shines through,” he told Mansion Global.

What is known is that the 5,100-square-foot, four-and-a-half-bathroom home was originally built in 1962 by architect John Elgin Woolf and was later updated by architecture firm Marmol Radziner, and that DeGeneres and De Rossi outfitted the Hollywood Regency–style mansion with modern technology. Inside the dwelling are a circular foyer and an open living and dining room that features an antique stone fireplace and a wall of glass for sweeping views of Los Angeles.

The buyer is unknown, but the power couple has previously sold houses to some notable people, including Netflix executive Ted Sarandos, Tinder founder Sean Rad, and makeup mogul Jamie Kern Lima and her husband, Paulo Lima.

As far as her house-flipping habit, DeGeneres told Today in a 2018 interview that she doesn’t really see it that way. “We buy a house, and we love it, and we stay in it, and then we get a little bored because we like a different style or a different aesthetic, and I love furniture, and I love decorating,” said the talk show host. “So if I find something else and we make money, it turns out, why not move to another house?”
